  • Lewes Sussex prison records

My Gfather was sent to prison for one year whilst in the navy back in 1886, I am trying to find out what he was convicted of, any ideas folk. It doesn,t say what he did in his navy records, he came out after serving the term and got another month in the brig for absent without leave.

The Lewes prison register will tell you when he was admitted, where the trial was held and the outcome. It should be in Sussex records office.

The crime would also be reported in the local newspapers. Have you tried googling his name?
