    Jilly

She's clutching a bunch of lucky heather, so I would say it's definitely a wedding photo - nice two piece "costume" and her best blouse!

Could it be to celebrate the engagement? What's she got on her finger?

Paul...it looks to me like a single band on her finger and I'm not sure they had an engagement...

i know they married in 1927 so if those outfits would fit that time then I would tend to agree with my aunt that this was indeed their wedding photo

It looks like a studio pic, from the background. I would have thought a wedding photo would have been taken where the ceremony took place - seems more likely that a newly engaged couple would visit a photographer than a newly married pair surrounded by relatives. Or are they wearing "going away" clothes?

Yes, skirts were going up in the 1920s - looks as if she's taken a big hem on hers to make it fashionable.

She looks very young in the photo - teens?

Hard to tell, but they are certainly wearing smart clothes. It could be an engagement pic or one to celebrate the wedding.

I have two "conventional" (ie white long dresses and veils) photos, one is of my gt grandparents in 1890 and annoyingly the bride has her veil down so you can't see her face - the other is husband's grandparents. In both cases they look like they were taken in studios with prop furniture and backgrounds.

they got married in the Church Manse which would have possibly looked more like a studio than in a church for instance...and they definately wouldnt have been able to afford going to a studio for pictures...they werent a "flush" couple....

yup OC....granny was 19 when she got married and grandpa was 21...

My parents got married during the war, in full regalia.

Mum is wearing a Utility wedding dress, a veil made from a net curtain and carrying a posy of artificial flowers. She couldn't get hold of any white shoes (she had tiny feet, size 2) so she blanco-ed her black ones!

They married in church but the photo is taken in a studio.

Yes, but don't hold your breath - the last time I uploaded anything to this site I did it upside down and everyone had to stand on their head to see it!

Sorry Jilly, forgot to say I think she's definitely wearing a plain gold band and it could almost definitely be their wedding.
