  • South African marriages

Grateful for any ideas how to obtain a marriage certificate for a marriage in Cape Town in 1850. The groom was English and bride probably was too.

I've tried various South African web sites without succes.

    Is there an easy way???

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Barbara,

    welcome to FTF

There is an overseas marriage index on

Birth, marriage and death records 1837 - 2005: search on findmypast

It is a PPV site, it may hold the marriage in question...

It was me - had to delete it as it was a look up offer for a subscription site which we don't allow in case it contravenes the conditions on the account.

I've PMed Uncle John to explain.

Hopefully he'll be in touch with you via PM Barbara
