  • Ancestry problem?

Has anyone got the same problem as me? For several days I have not been able to close Ancestry in the normal way (file and close). The file edit view bar dissappears and then everything locks up. I have to do control alt delete and I still have to wait a couple of minutes for a response when I say close now. It isn't Happening on any other site - just Ancestry.

I don't usually do that Chrissie. I just use the X in the right-hand corner. But I just tried your way, and it worked fine.

I've never tried doing it that way either, Chrissie, I just click on the x in the top right hand corner as well. But I too have just tried the file - close method and it worked fine for me.

Not sure as I never close it down,

I have 7 tabs open (thru tabbed browsing) and they are always there for me to flip between, I guess it is laziness on my part, as I have that many sites I use, I can't be bothered loggin in and out all the time.

Oh I don't log in and out Julie. I just have everything in my favourites.
I didn't mean log out, I meant close down when I'm going away from the computer. Ancestry just doesn't want to close down anymore.

ok, delete ancestry from your favourites, clear your cookies and then do a search for ancestry.co.uk on google. once you have put in your username/password then save to favorites again. it should work then.

I think it shows at the top of the first page when you go in?

UPDATE: Just had a look at my page, and it's top-right above the Ancestry menu bar, next to Log-Out - same level as the Ancestry logo on the left.

                      Chrissie, per PM, try this...

In IE, goto Tools menu, Internet Options, Advanced tab, and under the Browsing section,

UNTICK Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)

As the name suggests, you'll need to reboot afterwards for the change to take effect.
