Why can't I find in 1901?

James Wright married Sarah Jane Pittes in April-June 1895 ref West Ham.
He was born in Essex c1870/72 and he ended up in Lowestoft . They had a child there in 1915 but they probably went there much earlier. He was on the railways.

Ancestry is a pain. If I ask for James married to Sarah or Jane (because she was known as Jane later on) I get pages and pages first of men called Alfred James - George James etc, none of which have wives names Sarah or Jane and when I finally get to the James's Ancestry haven't picked out the ones with wives named Sarah or Jane. Am I doing something wrong? I know it's a common name but I just want to see the James Wrights with wives names Sarah or Jane :(

So how do you know that James was born in Essex?
Have you found him on an earlier census?

Do you mean you used James Wright or just James Jess? I tried it with just James and of course it starts at A.

Only through family talk and the fact that his brother was born in 1874 in Walthamstow Elaine. His brother John is in Lowestoft in 1901.

Yes, I've just had a look and it does look promising. The living relative only remembers them having 4 children - Gwendoline, Olive Donald and Bob. Gwendoline wasn't born until 1915 in Lowestoft, so I suppose any others had probably left home and she wouldn't know about them.
