              Scales is his middle name. I only have his marriage certificate and thats what it says. John Scales Hullock.

                              In 1871 his wife is listed as a sailor's wife which could explain why he's difficult to find.

                                  Hi Jackie, on the 1881 census it says Anne Hullock widow so hes died between 1871 and 1881.

                                    I haven't worked out the relevance of this yet but in 1841 there's a John Hullock aged 3, parents William and Allice and various siblings in Dalton in Furness. Next door is a family of Postlethwaites. The mother Postlethwaite is Agnes which is the same as Ann's mother in 1881 (I think or 71) although there is no Ann in 1841.

                                      Hi Night Owl. Ive come across this myself and wondered about it. is that the 1841 census? does it say in the Postlethwaite family that mother Agnes was a sailors wife ?
