    Hi Val,

This Private of The Middlesex Regiment is kitted out in interwar uniform. Can not say which year but I can say that it was after 1924 and prior to 1940.

        Margaret,

If you can rescan the picture at a higher res and just crop the hat, that will help alot to identify his regiment.. I have tried to zoom in and see what it is, but it isnt very clear at all

                Hi Don

                Thank you so much.

I haven't got a clue who it is.

                WW1 I presume?

Sorry Margaret I should have added that bit into my first post. The uniform is of the first world war period and as there are no collar dogs (small regimental badges on the collars) showing then it predates 1924. Taking it a bit further nearer to the 1st ww period medals were worn after 1919 and seeing that he has no medals up then I would assume that it predates that year as well (unless of course he joined between 1919 and 1924).

                    don.

The trouble is, he is either a Stanbridge or a Smith.

                      Have checked the Stanbridge's. I reckon it's a Smith

                      ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOooooh I might have identified him.

I have a Bernard J Stanbridge in the RFA according to the pension records.

                        Is that the same thing?

There is a medal card on the nation archives site for a Thomas W. Stanbridge who served firstly with the Royal Fusiliers (service number GS/127672) and then with The Royal Artillery (service number 6448911 ) rank on both being a Private.

The Bernard Stanbridge might be him but there again might not unless you can confirm any of the details given on his pension record. The RFA would have worn the badge shown on the cap in the picture.
