Second Marriage question
10-01-08, 10:26
If a woman divorces her 1st husband and then remarries, would her maiden name appear on the marriage cert or would she use the surname of hubby no1
Many thanks
Terry

It usually says Formerly B nee A
So she'd remarry in the B
So
Miss White marries 1st husband Mr Green then divorces Mr Green.
Mrs Green (nee White) marries 2nd husband Mr Black

Terry, nowadays it could be either, but in the past it would usually be her previous married name. Some indexes will give both.
P.S. Just reread your question - her maiden name should be on the cert too as it will be her father's surname.

my dads mum used her first married name, she also alternated between first married name and her maiden name on her childrens birth certificates, odd.

Many thanks for the replies. This could explain why I can't find the birth of the lady in question. I'll take a chance and send off for the marriage cert and hope it's the right one.
Thanks again
Terry
