  • IGI question...

If I wanted to see the Pr's for a particular parish, I know I can order the film so I can view it at a local LDS centre to me,

How would I go about this please?

Not ever having done this, I'm not quite sure of the procedure

    help/advice/hints greatfully recieved

Julie, I've only ever ordered at the Local History Centre. The one in Worcester is run by the County Council. We pay them and they order the film and we have to wait for it to arrive then get priority viewing for so long before it goes public. They are not sent back apparently. Perhaps a phone call to your nearest LDS centre would be best.

Our local LDS allows films on temporary loan only.

Have alook at the catalogue on the family search website. Do a place name search on the parish you want and you will see everything that has been filmed for that parish.

Make a note of the film number and take it along to the LDS centre and they will order it for you.

Your best bet is to phone the local centre to see if they already have the film you need. If they don't, they'll order it for a small charge, but you'll probably have to call in person to pay the charge before they order it.

You can find the address of your nearest centre here:

        FamilySearch.org - Family History Centers

And you can look in the catalogue to see if they've filmed the parish you want:

FamilySearch.org - Family History Library Catalog

Do a place search, and when you find the place you want, click on Church Records.

If both the parish registers and the bishops' transcripts are available, choose the parish registers.

Click on the link, then click on View film notes to get further details and the number of the microfilm or fiche you need.

The centre will normally hold the film for 2 months, after which there's a further charge if you still need it (although my centre in Italy doesn't charge extra).

If the records are too recent to have been filmed by the LDS, then they will either be in the relevant County Records Office, or still with the church.

Give us a clue and we will set off on the hunt!

If you have him on the 1841 census then does that mean you already have his parents' names? And how old is he in 1841?

Devon Records Office holds "most Anglican records"

Quickest way round this, I think, would be to email them and ask for a photocopy or a search - or see on the Wiki if anyone is visiting?
