  • Not sure where this is going........

I have on the 1862 census this group:

    RG9; Piece: 1017; Folio: 120; Page: 13

Thomas Webb head 73 born Teversham Cambridgeshire
Mary A Webb, wife, 69 born Madingley Cambridgeshire
Mary A Lemon, visitor, 43 born Comberton Camridgeshire, Coal Merchants Wife
George Lemon, visitor, 10 born Fordwich Kent

Now normally I'd put the visitors to one side when I'm just starting to look into a family but these two stand out because Thomas' brother Robert Walker Webb married Martha Lemmon from Shoreditch

So my first thought is that she's a rellie of Martha's somehow, maybe a sister in law, so worth looking into.

I've not really had any luck finding her as Mary Lemmon in the census so started searching for plain Mary born Comberton and found this in 1881

    RG11; Piece: 90; Folio: 34; Page: 29

    William Clapp, head, 22
Annie P. Clapp, wife, 23 born Fordwich Kent
    with ....
Mary A. Webb, mother in law, 63 born Comberton Cambridgeshire

Am I chasing my tail on something thats just coincidences or can anyone see something that I can't?

For reference siblings I have for Martha Lemmon are:
    Emma c1820, Issac john 1822, William c1823, Ann Clerassa 1825, Harriet 1827, Sarah 1829, John George 1830, Ellen 1833 and Eliza 1835.
all either baptised or on census as being born in Shoreditch

It does seem to be very linking-up even if it's not quite certain how.

Perhaps a bit of playing around with ideas and scribbling on paper would help?

        I've been looking on FindMyPast:

        1871

LEMON, John Head M 49 Middlesex
LEMON, Mary Ann Wife F 52 Cambridgeshire
        LEMON, John A Son M 26 Middlesex
        LEMON, Mary A Daughter F 27 Middlesex
        LEMON, Pheobe L Daughter F 20 Middlesex
LEMON, Walter Son M 18 Middlesex
LEMON, Arthur Son M 17 Kent
        LEMON, Margaret A Daughter F 14 Middlesex
        LEMON, Jessie E Daughter F 11 Middlesex

        RG10 Piece: 280 Folio: 49 Page: 50
        Islington

However, John isn't a coal merchant and no sign of George either. But note that Arthur 17 was born in Kent.

        Don't know if this helps.

Sorry - it doesn't seem to be them. I have found all of them in 1861.

ach - I think they may well be Leman

              Births Mar 1851
Leman George Edward Bridge 5 49

although Leman/Lemon/Lemmon are all regular variations

Asher/Asber might be Arber. There's a marriage for Philip Arber Leman in 1859.

and on 1841 census as Lewans!!

                      HO107; Piece 469; Folio: 9; Page: 9

There's birth marriages and deaths for both Phillip Arber lLeman and JOhn Arber Leman

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that they're not mine though as my Leman/Lemon/Lemmon mob are steadfastly in Shoreditch for ages

                      Cheers everyone for your help

and with all that I've totally gone off on a tangent and can't remember where I'd gotten up to with all the Webb lot

at this rate I'm going to have to resort to doing my tax return
