      not sure, seems too many letters to me, may be. sons marriage cert says same will scan that and see if its easier to read.

        It looks more like Corner or Corver to me....wouldn't have a clue as to whether there was such occupations, though.

            corver was some1 that made baskets at coalmines and oon the next census he addres is the colleriry. so that makes sense.

              It looks like carver but I can't see it - or anything like it in this list of old occupations:

                i have a book of 1,700 old occupations, and corver is the nearest i can find.

                        I had a thought as I read through this lot...

                        I think the French for basket is corbeille? So someone who makes baskets is probably a corbier (or something like that). B and V are close together, phonetically (think of Spanish! - Codoba etc), not just on a keyboard!

                        So it would make sense for a basket-maker to be a corver, or corvier. It certainly looks like Corver.
