  • Old Byland, Scawton & Rievaulx - North Yorks

    Happy New Year to All;)

If anyone is researching this area of North Yorkshire, take a look at this site:

    Home

It is packed with information on these villages and the surrounding farms, including hundreds of names, farm tenencies, hearth tax, census info - the list is endless.

Even if you have no interest in this part of Yorkshire, the site is still worth a visit. I particularly enjoyed the reading about some of the fines dished out by the local magistrates, such as the following:

Charles Rickaby for forceably making way over Charles Mason pasture ground into Ye parts and hinging a gate when there was never one before at Ye Parts. He was fined one shilling !!:o

    Best wishes
    Terry

      Hi Jess

I don't think it's affected by copyright so there should be no prob.

          Hi Snowdrops

My lot are from Raskelf & Sproxton. Will make the trip back there one day - (to find my roots as our Cousins across the pond say)
