Update 7/1/08..... Moses Taylor married Alice Cherrick in OND 1872 Manchester

I have found Alice in 1881 with her 2 daughters Moses was in hospital

The only record I can find for Alice is her marriage and the 1881 census

    Any suggestions please

ps she was born 1838 Manchester

My advice would be to look at the marriage entry on Lancashire BMD if it is on there to see if an alternative surname is given for Alice, but I can't get Lancashire BMD to do anything at the moment!

There are not many entries for Cherrick on freebmd, do you think it's a mistranscription?

I just checked the complete index and there are no Cherricks born in 1837,38 or 39

There is always a chance she was married before and Cherrick is her married name. You might have to get the marriage certificate for Alice and Moses to confirm this information

I'm trying to think of alternatives to Cherrick - Herrick, Merrick? There are lots of Alices born 1837 +/- a year in Manchester on 1841. I think you'd need to see her father's name on the marriage cert to help.

I am going to send for the marriage certificate. It's a pity that it only says Registrar attended or Registry Office on Lancs BMD. If it had been a church I could have looked at the parish records at the archives.

                            UPDATE

I received the marriage cert today the writing is very faint but it still looks like Cherrick. Alice's father was James and she was living at 82 Pott St Ancoats. I now have the name of the church so I can go and look at the parish records

Is there a way of finding the address on the 1871 census?
