  • How do I do an address search 1881?

Going round in circles. Can't seem to find address listed in the enumeration districts on Ancestry.

It's Brick Row, Llwydarth Road, Maesteg, Llangynwyd, Glamorgan.
Ancestry has Llangynwyd Upper, Middle & Lower but can't seem to find it listed under any of them.

1871 John Evans is living there at no.10 with son Jenkin (husband's gt grandfather). 1891 Jenkin is living at no.10 with his wife.
In 1881 though, John, Jenkin & co are living at 96 Garth Road, Cwmdu, Glamorgan, so I am curious to know who is at 10 Brick Row.

I've played around on familysearch too but got nowhere!

I don't think you can do an address search on LDS, I've just been there 'cos Ancestry won't let me on this afternoon.
Useless info for you tho', sorry.

Perhaps Brick Row had been pulled down by then?

The problem with the address search is that the address you enter has to match exactly with the index.

Street instead of St or Road instead of Rd can result in no hits. The same with Avenue and Ave.

Is the district number from 1871 any use?

When I'm REALLY stuck ... I usually pick a common surname, or one that was living in that street on another census .... enter a year of birth +/- 20 and hope to strike lucky with the street.
Then I just trawl through the census images.

Or go through each ED descriptions until your street appears

Thank you everyone! Brick Row certainly wasn't pulled down as Jenkin lived there in 1891 and in 1898 husband's grandfather was born there.

You are a star - I followed your ref and found it a few pages further on - very interesting as no 10 is marked as uninhabited. Wonder why? Clearly it was habitable again when Jenkin moved back in!
                cheers!
