  • If you're planning Birmingham (England) research in Jan 08 ...

You'll need to re-plan, according to the Birmingham Archives site:
Archives and Local Studies services – major changes on the way !

We have been working towards an amalgamation of the Archives and Local Studies services in Birmingham Central Library together with changes that will allow us to make more of our collections accessible to a wider range of people. This has now reached the point where major changes will be noticeable to those who use us and details about these changes are set out below.

In particular, please note that both the Archives and Local Studies Services on Floors 6 and 7 of the Central Library will be closed during the whole of January 2008 with the new service scheduled to open on February 1st 2008.
There's more detail about it on that page.
