Jess that's her, I was given the site The People of Cockfield that was how I found them ,by a Souter cousin , But I have the BC of a lot of them. I could not find her in the 1841 census, but as I said on James's DC she is named, well a Charlotte is

As your Charlotte married a Mr Williams, maybe this is your Charlotte Merrifield? (also living in Kennington)

              1851: HO107; Piece: 1573; Folio: 14; Page: 20

Her husband is a police constable!

Just dawned on me...the informant may have been the granddaughter, who was married to the Bobby?

Informant could be a neighbour or family friend, helping the widow by doing the paperwork. I always think it a missed opportunity that the informant (as with marriage witnesses) doesn't have to state relationship with deceased (or spouses!).

I wasn't meaning Mrs Merrifield was a relative, just that she was probably the death informant!! What was her capacity?.... "present at the death"?? I just assumed she would be known to the dec'd's family because of the common occupation and because she was living in the right place.

Good Morning, James's DC said that he died of Cholia so Maybe this Charlotte was a Nurse It would appear that his wife Martha nee Crick may have been already dead. or she would be there I would have thought . I have a copy of the papers from London showing his rise in rank .But on re-reading the thread Charlotte could have married a policeman, it sounds right
