Now that is the question Vikki,

I dont know! I'm presuming she died before him, as my mum told me that when he died they had to empty their house, which was full of artificial limbs and false teeth!!..lol

I know he only had the one arm, and I'm suspecting he lost it in a mining accident, but I really dont know much more about her.

as to him being a widow, er I dont know... am gonna order the cert today..lol

all the people that could possibly know or remember them have died

So you are looking for a Gertrude death in Nottingham?

I guess you don't have the marriage cert?

Is this the couple from your picture thread? infront of the building that was knocked down in 62?

            that is correct Vikki yes,

that is the couple yes... the yard is where my mum was born (not IN the yard, lol, but the house) and was demolished in 1962/3 for "improvements".. so has to be before then.

and no I dont have the second marriage yet, didnt find that till 1am this morning..lol

                ooooooooooooooo Vikki!

                that does look promising

Now I have just remembered something mum told me yrs ago.

apparently she fell in the fire, (well put her hands out to break her fall) and her hands went in the fire.. I wonder if this was a consequence? hmmn, would certainly tie a few things into place, I know she was only a step gt grandparent, but she was the only gran my mum ever knew

                        Right,

certs came this morning, so have just opened em..lol

Sept 5th 1925. Parish Church Hucknall.

marriage cert for Alfred Holt and Gertrude Osbourn.. her father John Osbourn (Occ Lace hand)

                        Witness's My grandparents.

her age at marriage 36 and spinster.

                        Death certs:

Alfred Holt aged 89 died City hosp, someone from the hosp registered the death. does not state whether alf was widow or not, does state home addy, so I know its the right one. (but doesnt state an occupation).

Gertrude Holt: this unfortunately isnt my step gt gran. so I guess it is back to the drawing board looking for her death entry.

Am just gonna have a look now to see if I can find a likely census entry for gert....

Well 2 outta 3 ain't bad, shame about Gerts death cert.

if she died as horrifically as she did, there must have been someting in a local paper, have you tried contacting the local library see if they have anything

Julie, you could look at the electoral rolls to see when Gertrude stopped being listed at that address?

                                  Kate,

mmm I have not ever looked at the elec rolls before, so might be worth a shot, I know that my grandparents/aunty/and step gt grandparents all lived on the same street, but they all swapped houses with each other... that'll be fun..lol

I guess that the local studies library will have them?

Mm I dont think they were well enough off to be in the fone book Vikki, but I will have a look

ooo I have just found another Death entry... spookily enough the same yr and Q as her husband...

gives age at death as 71, so that would indicate 1889 as YOB. which tallies with her marriage cert... and is in basford dist, which if she did die in the fire then would be consistant with that dist.
