  • Places of birth - Derbyshire

    I wonder if anyone with a bit of local knowledge could tell me where these places of birth are please

    Firstly for Mary Ann Pincham (transcribed Pinoham) in 1861

    - Ancestry.co.uk

    and secondly for William Pincham (transcribed Pinchum) in 1871

    - Ancestry.co.uk

    I did wonder if the second one might be Whittington Moor. Has anyone got any better suggestions?

    NB - both only appear on the census given above with their respective families.

    Many thanks

    ~~~~~ Hi Barbara. I agree with with Whittington Moor or that would be my guess not sure about the other though.
        I think you might be right about the second one and I am just thinking out loud for the first one.
        Calke?
        Cresswell?
        Carsington?
              Thanks for looking Pippa
              Nothing quite seems to fit does it?:(
              I think its very unlikely to be Creswell, as the family are living in Whitwell which is only about 2 miles from Creswell.
                Sorry, think our posts crossed there
                Calke looks like the most likely of those doesn't it? Especially as I can't get any of the others to sound like Calkorth.
                          Can't see anywhere looking hopeful on the list of parishes in Worksop reg district though, or is that just me not seeing something obvious
                                Clayworth is well into Notts. away from the county border, so its unlikely to be listed as Derbyshire anywhere
                                Could be Calow I suppose?
                                  I think the first one is witton moor, and the second one praps chatsworth,
                                  my thinking being, the enumerator did write the POB in the occupation bit then crossed it out, maybe it sounded like catsworth?
                                  i'm probably wafflin.... *crawls back under the dark rock, from whence she came*
                                      Hi Julie
                                      The second one does say Witton Moor, but I can't find anywhere on a map that matches it
                                      Can't see an "h" in the original or the rewritten address on that census page, but that could be my eyesight failing of course
