  • Deleting temporary internet files

I just read over the road that they can clog up your computer. So thought hey i will have a clear out never had a clear out on this computer so think it's about time. The instructions say
    Tools, Options, Delete temp files.
So am i being thick where do you go to get the tools menu in the first place?!

Also if i delete my cookies and i have my passwords saved to my user name will they be forgotten?

    Many thanks

    Hi Jennie
You should see tools at the top of the page where it says file edit view etc

No, deleting temporary internet files won't delete your cookies. It just means that each page you view will have to load from scratch as you don't have an old copy on your computer.

Jennie, it might do. It might be a good idea to empty the recycle bin after deleting the temporary internet files, and then defragment your disk.

Or just don't delete then. There isn't really any point to deleting cookies anyway. I never do.

Hi Jennie, I think the "Guaranteed 8 Mgs speed " is an upto speed. I'm with Talktalk Broadband which has a similar guarantee but get speeds between 6.2 - 6.7 Mbps which is pretty good.

Can I suggest that you may find it prudent to carry out the following actions once a week in this order; delete temporary internet files, empty Recycle Bin, run disk cleanup, run disk defragmenter. The last two can be found by accessing "Start" - "All Programs" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" and there you'll find the Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter. The disk cleanup clears any unnecessary files and compacts the rest which gives the memory more room, don't worry, you won't lose any important files.

                              Hope this helps

                              Regards

                              Merv

Have you run your antivirus and spyware cleaners?
Adware & Spyware will slow your computer down far more than Temporary Internet Files.

                                    Hi Jennie
I would second what Lyn advises and thats to run Spybot or Ad Aware (or both) they really can slow you down.
Also, have you seen my thread further down this page "FREE DOWNLOAD FROM COMPUTERACTIVE MAG" ? You'll have to be quick as the offer to download it runs out tommorow. Its for Registry Mechanic 6 and it'll sort your registry out and fix any windows errors and also optimise your PC performance. It certainly speeded mine up.
                                    Good luck

A bit late but there is a way go to "tools" >> "delete browsing history" everyting is listed there temporary internet files and cookies they should be kept under control or you clog your harddrive up with junk
