When Edward Cooper, full age, batchelor, married Mary Ann Brewer, full age, spinster, at Trinity Church, St Marylebone on 15.1.1843, he gave his occupation as Gentleman and his father's name as William, a solicitor. Witnesses were F William Cooper and Jane Turpin.
When three of Edward and Mary Ann's children were baptised in St Pancras on 8.3.1843 (two of whom were born before the wedding, but registered with their father's surname), he gives his occupation as Solicitor.
On the 1851 census, Mary Ann is listed as a widow; and there's a death in 1849 of a 35yo Edward Cooper, who was buried at All Souls, Kensal Green on 25.7.1849. I can't, however, find Edward Cooper on the Probate Register, which seems odd that a solicitor would die intestate.
I can't find the couple on the 1841 census with or without their two children (Frederick George b. 29.9.1839 and Mary Ann b. 28.4.1841). The only Edward/Mary Ann I can find in London has Edward as a labourer and Mary Ann as an F P (sorry, can't remember what that stands for) and there are no children in the household.
So, in trying to help a friend with his family history, I've got stuck and wonder if anyone can:
1. Find the family on the 1841 census. Mary Ann was b in Wiltshire, so she should be recorded as being born "out of county".
2. Find a baptism for an Edward Cooper, son of a solicitor called William (or maybe F William?). Tricky, especially as I don't know where he was from.
3. Suggest any lists of solicitors etc that might help?
4. Anything else, please?
Any help to stop me from going round in circles would be great.
TIA
