I have seen this reference to Gilbert Squire of Long Sutton. 1684 - 14/10/1753.
Does anyone have an image of this lease reference?
After many years of searching finally we have proof that John Squire is the son of Gilbert and Anne Squire.
In an unindexed manorial survey (SRO DD/X/BB 1-9 C/219) it gives details of a lease
given by the Duke of Devonshire to :-
Gilbert Squire aged 53 years
his son John aged 20 years and
his son Thomas aged 18 years lease dated 2nd January 1737.
Further proof was found in the manorial court book (SRO DD/DEV 2)
1754 Manorial Court -
"We present that Gilbert Squire one of the tenants of this manor is dead since the last court and that a life is lost on his cottage
which he holds from the Lord of this Manor and that John Squire his son is the new taker"
