    Hi

I am looking for the family of Owen Mack and his wife Mary. I can find a marriage record in 1840 in Westminster, but I cant find them in 1841 or 1851. I can find them in 1861 and Mary in 1881 listed as a widow.

They both state Ireland as birthplace but nothing more specific than that. They have children - Mary Eliza, Timothy, Margaret, jerry and Thomas and state all children are born in Middlesex, however I can only find birth records of two of the children (MMN Shea/Shey/Shee). The eldest child was born in Cork c1842, is it a good guess to assume that the family came from there?

I cant find a death record of Owen

Is there anywhere I can look to find any more records? I have tried Find my past and Family Search as they seem to be a lot more reliable than Ancestry in terms of transcription, but they aren't there

I cannot see any Mack children born/baptised in Cork, Ireland with Owen as father but I'm not good at Irish research. They would only be in Church records as there are not any Civil records before 1864.
The two eldest children on 1861 census, Mary and Timothy are registered in Westminster 1842 and 1845 but I'm confused - who was the 'eldest' child born Cork c1842?
I cannot find the other children - did Owen's wife die perhaps and he then married another Mary from Ireland????

I don't have any surnames like that in my tree, is that common that they just go for a shortened version, would never have thought to look. good detective work.

Nice one Elaine. I know the Irish sometimes altered the Mc or the O but not the last part. Will remember that for future. McGillicuddy isnt that the name of a mountain range.
Hope Lensgirl returns. Maybe a PM to let her know?

Wow thank you so much, never in a million years would I have worked that out!!

Mary Eliza Mack is my 3x great grandmother and married John Howard. The 1871 census is where she lists her birth as Cork, so I wonder where she is in 1851 as she isn't with the family.

some of the records are missing for around this area - see the last few posts on this thread.

This maybe a red herring - but thought it was worth a mention

On FMP there is a William and Walter Green sons of John and Mary Green. Looks like the couple from the 1864 marriage.

So its unlikely that this is my family?Mary Mack and John Howard had their youngest child (my distant grandfather) in 1866. In 1871 the family are together, albeit Mary Eliza is listed as Elizabeth. I have the birth cert so I know john Howard and mary mack are his parents

Just re read your post - the eldest child was born in Ireland, in 1842, so they will all be in Ireland for 1841?

can you confirm that is them in 1861?

                                        Owen Mack down as bircklayer/labourer

says Owen Mack is a Carpenter, marriage in Rotherhithe

                                        and is this Marys Marriage?
