  • Planters to Ulster from Galloway per McClure in Donegal/Shannon in Limavady

Looking for anyone who is researching the people that were part of the movement of people from this area to Ireland from 1610. I have two families that may have come from this area. One - McClure who finished around the Raphoe/Convoy part of Donegal. Related by DNA to Richard McClure from Scotland circa 1650 the first Lessee of Findrum. Two - Shannon - James Shannon 1750 Keenaught - Newtown/Limavady. Held land leases to early 20th century for Derry Beg farm.

    Cheers

    Hi,
I'm interested in the Lyons family (settled around Limavady). A faint family tradition says that they came from Dundee, but it's perfectly possible that they were from Galloway.
It's my wife's side of the family, and no DNA testing has been done, so I don't think we're in a position to help each other, but you never know!
    Kind regards,
    William
