  • help with a marriage please

Can anyone spot a marriage between Rebecca Culling and John Oldman, please?
Rebecca (nee Kirk) was widowed in 1870 and John in January 1872. They had a child Maud Ruth Oldman birth reg Norwich in Q1 1873, mmn Kirk. Rebecca lived in Thorpe by Norwich and John's first wife was buried there. The birth of their second child Frederick Kirk Oldman (mmn Kirk) was registered at Stockport in 1875 and the family lived in the Manchester/Oldham area until the early 1900's.

Do you have her death? Was Rebecca registered as an Oldman or Culling?

      Perhaps they didn't get married?

The possible death registration I have is for Rebecca Oldman - September 1904 Oldham reg dist. This fits with 1901 & 1911 census entries for the family.
Thank you both for looking. As far as I can see, their former spouses had died and so there would have been no legal impediment to a marriage. However, Rebecca's husband had worked at the Norwich asylum and I did wonder if she was in receipt of some meagre pension, which would be forfeited on remarriage??? After the death of her husband, she ran a small shop in the village where she lived, but doesn't seem to have had any occupation once she and John moved to Lancashire.

I think what you say sound very possible, Janet.

          Probably will never know exactly.
