  • A Lost Marriage

    Hi

    I am just new to the forum and am hoping that someone maybe able to help locate a marriage for me.

    I am searching for a marriage between;

    Thomas LIDDLE (LIDDELL) and Hannah Elizabeth RIDSDALE that took place, probably in the Ludworth area of Durham around 1873/4, perhaps as late as 1876.

    Whilst Thomas had been born in the Trimdon area of Durham, Hannah had been born in Carlton, Yorkshire around 1856, so she would have been quite young at the time of her marriage.

    The couple were still together in 1911, living in Shotton Colliery; Thomas states on this census that they have been married for 38 years.

    I know that there are several churches covering the Ludworth area;

    St Giles, I understand main church for that parish.

    St Mary’s Sherburn

    Methodist Church Sherburn Hill

    St Andrews Church Ludworth and Wheatley Hills

    St Laurence Pittington

    Hetton on the Hill

    Hallgate

    Shadforth Methodist Chapel formerly Presbyterian 1854

    St Bartholomew, Thornley

    Old Methodist Chapel Shadforth

    Also a wooden Church at Ludworth that was burned down

    Their marriage does not appear digitally, as far as I can see, so is there any other way of tracing it - assuming that they did get married that is!!

    Thanks

    Sue

    Not seeing a marriage. Perhaps Thomas was already married.

      There is a lot of discussion around this on this thread:

      I agree with OC. Having read that thread through either they didn't marry as Thomas was already married OR they never married despite Hannah's remarriage as a 'widow' after Thomas's death.
