  • Death Duties

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining information about death duties?

I know the index is on FMP, and the national archives in Kew hold the files.

Do they include much information? How do you obtain copies?

They hold variable amounts of information (sorry!!). The format I have seen is like a table with limited space for entries but in some cases there is useful stuff squeezed in. I have a death duty entry which mentions a family relationship .... it is the only document I have found proving that two women were sisters.

I thought I got mine online from FMP but I may have bought a download from TNA (about £3.50).

it seems the country court registers are on TNA from 1796-1811. the prerogative court registers for this period and all registers from 1812-1903 are at TNA. thanks anne, i didn't know that.
