  • Are these signatures the same

William Brown or William Henry Brown William Brown M.JPGWilliam Henry Brown M.JPG

and would you say his father who was described as Bricklayer on William's First Marriage, could have been a Stone Mason instead of Bricklayer, as on the second Marriage.

At first sight a close thing. Both small, slanting forwards but I feel B and W not the same, poorly defined i and apart from the extra Henry, feel the first signature 'finer' than the second.
Would have thought Mason and Bricklayer were skills not likely to be interchangeable

I think a bricklayer would easily move on to being a stone mason.

Look similar to me. How many years apart are they? I have changed the way I sign my name without realising it. Looking at an old passport, my signature is very different now.

A mason is a more skilled version of a bricklayer, so the occupations match.

In 1882 he says he is William Brown a Printer ,Father William Brown, a Bricklayer, in 1887 he says William Henry Brown a Printer, Father William Henry Brown , a Stone Mason.

Lets put it this way - a bricklayer is a Ford. A stone mason is a Jaguar.
