  • 1939 Register help, please

On the 1939 Register, there's an Albert Thorn/Thorne b 28 Jul 1933, living in Bristol with his parents. Against his name in the l/h column is:

    22 12 53
    GG

but I've no idea of its significance. I've been through the 1939 Codes (whatever they're called), but those that represent an area are all three letters, whereas this is just two.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

    Thanks

Did he die around that date? Sorry, no idea what GG could stand for. Its quite common for marriages to be listed for women in that column but they are usually in coloured ink.

Edit to say, maybe that is the initials of the person who corrected his name? It is unusual to see male surnames altered, albeit by a small amount.

No, he married in 1956 and didn't die until 2000. His father died in 1941 and mother re-married in 1944; her surname has been changed and annotated with "8 1 44 OCG M" where the OCG is the Ennumeration Code for Mangotsfield, which is where they lived.

      This GG is a puzzle!

Edited to say : Just seen your edit. Maybe you're right. In 1953 he'd have been 20 and so might have come to the end of his National Service, prompting some sort of government record checking thingy that threw up the Thorn/Thorne difference?
