    Does anyone have full access to ancestry and could kindly look to at this record, particularly the attestation paper? Thank you.

    I have gone cross-eyed looking for this man in 1891 census and drew a total blank in England, so I gave Scotland etc. a try and found a possible in the Maryhill Barracks in Glasgow.

    John was born Broughton West/Broughton in Furness and his parents were William WALKER (joiner) and Margaret PENNINGTON, living with others of their children in Broughton West. His birth index entry is WALKER, JOHN PENNINGTON GRO Reference: 1873 S Quarter in ULVERSTON Volume 08E Page 777
    In later life he was a striker in a black steel works/blast furnace man.

    This is record I found;

    Name: John Walker
    Age: 15
    Birth Date: abt 1873
    Birth Place: Lancashire
    Service Start Year: 1888
    Regiment: Lancashire Fusiliers
    Regimental Number: 2582
    Attestation Paper: Yes

        Thanks Elaine. Sadly that that isn't him. Mine was married in 1896 and is on 1881, 1901 and 1911 censuses. Am just going to have to accept that he has not been recorded in 1891.
