  • Emmigrating to America

Does anybody know how long it took, around 1840 for a person to organise emmigrating to the US? Was there an application process or did a person just book a place on a boat to the US?
    Thanks.

In 1840 you just booked a passage. No passports, no visas and no prior permission required.
