Hi
This badly-damaged carte de visite belongs to an elderly distant relative. Can anyone identify the regiment please?
The reverse of the photo bears the name S Lambert, photographer, of Chatham. He was operating there in the 1881 census, but not 1871 or 1891. My first thought was Royal Marines, but it seems there were many regiments passing through Chatham around 1881.
Left sleeve has 2 inverted chevrons, good conduct badges I think, and crossed rifles above - marksman? But I can't make out the collar badge or buttons.
