  • Which is her maiden name?

Birth certificate of a child born 1901 in Birmingham has mothers name as Ellen Thomas late Edwards Formerly Dry.

I've taken her maiden name as Dry, but can find a marriage to a William Thomas.

Did she marry as Mrs Edwards? Her maiden name was Dry but she didn't necessarily marry just because she used the name Edwards. Hope that makes sense!

Her maiden name would be Dry so she would have married William Thomas as Ellen Edwards assuming they married. Do you have Ellen and William on 1901 and 1911 censuses? 1911 will say how long they have been married and no of children to that marriage. Need to know a bit more about them really to help find a possible marriage.

I've got a marriage for Ellen Dry marring an Edwards and she's a widow on 1911 census with one of her daughters as an Edwards.
This family is not related to me, I'm trying to help someone else.

I had a look at the marriages 1911 - 1925 for a marriage between William Thomas and Ellen Edwards and the only two came up. Edwards in both cases transcribed wrongly but unfortunately neither Edwards was an Ellen.
              Perhaps they never married??

I'm beginning to think they never married either. Not that unusual I know, even back then.
                Thanks for looking anyway.
