Could you give us some more information about Mary to work with, please? Did she marry - who and where? Have you any later census records for her?
Generally, the further back one goes in time then the records are less detailed and informative. Usually one needs other life details in order sort out possible connections and to establish links.

Mary married John Cartwright of Caunton in 1812, in Norwell. She therefore does not appear on census records as Hallam.
If you find her in census returns after the marriage, hopefully you may get clues about her extended family, which could lead onto other areas to investigate.
As her marriage record probably doesn't give details of her parents, how are you going to know that any baptism record for a Mary Howell born c1793 is definitely the one you are searching for, unless you have other bits of information to compare it with? Bear in mind that NOT all records are online, so for each one found on the net, there could well be other possibilities not yet filmed or transcribed.
