  • ancestry help re james V

just explaining our tree to my grandson and he has found on ancestry that several people claim John McKerrow b 1530 is son of James V. Most of them say they have 4 sources but when I click to see the sources you need a subscription which I dont have at the moment. Can somebody have a look please to see what sources are cited.
    Thanks

Each and every one has Ancestry Family Tree four times over as a source apart from one which has One World Tree as its source...still looking gloryer but doubt there will anything worth noting.

As far as I can see, the sources are all Ancestry Family Trees. However one tree has a story giving the reasoning for the idea of James V being the father, which is also shown on this page http://jamesmckerrowsurveyor.blogspo...mily-tree.html

All the ones I have looked at show that their sources are Ancestry Family Trees - in other words they have all copied info from each other and I can't see a single one offering any other evidence!
Update - Oh I didn't spot the one with the blog - guess that at least shows which of the many tree owners has done any research as opposed to copying

I have heard of this before but taken it all with a pinch of salt as I have never come across anything to confirm the theory. I did read somewhere that James V has 13 illigitimate children and the first Mckerrow was one of them.

thank you, I clicked on the link for the blog and I now remember where I had got that snippet of info from. It is from a book called Kith and kin written by a McKerrow who did extensive searching with parish records etc. but he has sadly passed away but a copy of the book is in either Glasgow or Edinburgh library

                      Oh, interesting -
someone seems to have deleted the spousal relationship between James V and Mary Tudor.
                      "Reason This Relationship Was Deleted

Mary Tudor is the aunt to James V son of James IV & Margaret Tudor"

Yes that is my man thank you. My 10 x great grandfather
There is a lot of speculation about James V but nothing to convince me yet. But it has given grand son an interest and sense of belonging!!!
He will probably turn up at my house dressed with a sword and shield next week...lol

The person on familytree might be worth contacting? She disconnected James V as the father, and added the comment that John was James' nephew.
