I'm needing informtion on Blany Hazelwood (or Hazlewood) and his marriage to Catherine (Unknown surname). I want to know if there is a record of the marriage and what Catherine's surname was? They were both born in NC. I think they married sometime in the 1800's-1830's. They moved to Grainger County, Tennessee during or at their time of marriage. I think they married in NC or Grainger County, TN.

would tracking Louisa's birth/baptism help? I noticed that Catherine said she was born in Virginia and Blaney in Tennessee.
is it customary for the bride to marry in her home parish? [pretty much like it is here in uk?]Julie

Vera's right, there are several records pertaining to Blany/Blaney on Ancestry. Do you have an active ancestry sub?
I haven't tried to read it all, but there is a probate for Blany. Can you access it?
It has many pages. I skimmed a first few. It seems Blany left a widow, but she died and the heirs were trying to divvy up property. I think the widow had brought a piece of land with her into the marriage.
Did you find Blany's findagrave page?
You can request a photo - if there's still a marker. I didn't find a Catherine Hazelwood nor Hazlewood in the cemetery.
It would be great if you found a copy of this:

Blany died in 1862, and the book was published in 1887. With luck, he will have a write up in it. These county histories were a way for the author/publisher to sell books: they included a bit of history, then wrote up biographies about more prominent members of the community. The prominent members bought the vanity books. Warning - the author was not always careful with the details!

The probate was 50+ pages. I skimmed the first few. I don't think I saw the widow's name.
If you don't have an active Ancestry sub, you might check out your local public library or Family History Center. The institutional sub that FHC's have may access more records. Also, Ancestry offers two weeks free sub when you first sign up. Be sure to cancel the sub before those two weeks are up if you want to avoid a charge

This record is 90 pages long dated 1863 and refers to Catherine as the Widow. I think Milly is the wife of ? son Blane/ey but then then there is another Blane/Blaney with wife Aurelia.
Will post a snip

We the undersigned Commissioners appointed by the County Court of Grainger County at its April term 1863 to allot and assign ? Dower to Catherine Hazlewood widow of Blaney Hazlewood dec after being duly sworn according to law. Report as following to wit
Then a description of where property was situated and acreage
Following which petition dated 1866 by John M Hazlewood against Lewis Carter, wife and others in which Catherine is recorded as now being deceased.
Have you contacted the Cemetery where Blaney is buried. It maybe that Catherine was buried in the same place.

Please - do you have an ancestry sub, so that you may go and read the document yourself?
