Hello, I am looking for my g-g-grandmother born Mary Ann Smith in or around 1836, I think she was born in Bristol, (cant recall why). She married (first time) aged 30 (Feb 1866) in Greymouth New Zealand. Her parents are William Smith and Elizabeth Elms. Suggestions please on how to find marriage of William and Elizabeth. Thank You.

This is all I can see at the moment for an Elizabeth Elms in Bristol area. Cannot see a marriage tho'.
Elizabeth Elms
Christening Date
13 Aug 1809
Place: Bitton, Gloucester, England
Father's Name
Thomas Elms
Mother's Name
Sarah
Do you have them on a census at all? 1841 or 1851?
Did Mary Ann emigrate with her parents?
Smith is very difficult with such vague information.
Does her death cert give more information?
NZ deaths ask for:
Age and date of Birth
Place of Birth
If not born in NZ number of years lived here. Assuming informant knows.Kat

Hello, Thank you for your reply, finally found death cert for Mary Ann Smith, according to the death cert she was born in London ( and not Bristol) and seems to have arrived in NZ in about 1863. She married a Thomas Englert of Germany. She was 29-30 he 46 according to death cert. Her father (William Smith) was described as a hairdresser. Age of 29-30 first marriage for a women, is that odd in 1860 england?. She seemed has have owned property and run boarding houses in later life. Thank you.

I can see a Mary Ann Smith born Shadwell, Middlesex 1837 with
father William a hairdresser b St George in the East Middlesex
mother Elizabeth b Aldgate, City
they are in the 1841 1851 and 1861 census living Back Street Shadwell Stepney Middlesex
Elizabeth could be the Elizabeth Elves who married a William Smith in 1832 in St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney after Banns.
There is a record of the Banns and a note of the marriage but I cannot see a record of the marriage as such.

Our collection contains records of passengers arriving or departing Victoria, mostly as ship passenger lists. They are divided into: 1. inward bound passengers “assisted” (subsidised) “unassisted” (paying their own way), or “coastal” (travelling to Victoria from an Australian port), and 2. outward bound passengers, regardless of destination.
Possibility - this could be her onward journey from Australia to NZ
Mary Smith
Age: 26
Birth Year: abt 1838
Departure Date: Jul 1864
Departure Place: Victoria, Australia
Destination: OTAGO
Ship: ALDINGA I
Ship's Master: STEUART JOHN
