  • Those with early C19 RN & RM Ancestors

I just discovered that FMP have recently added British Royal Navy Allotment Declarations 1795-1852 (from the National Archives). These give details of sailors and marines who allocated part of their wages for the maintenance of their mothers or wives and can contain fascinating information on dates of marriages, residence as well as details on the man himself such as the ship he served on and rank etc.

For those with sailor / marine rellies they are well worth a look [although annoyingly is seems that some years / some ships don't seem to be included] and it really helps if you have your man's service record, or even just where he was on a particular census, although if you suspect someone has a naval connection and he has a relatively unusual name you might get lucky.

    Hope it helps someone!
