  • Y dna test vs paternity test

Y dna tests are expensive. So i had a thought, instead of testing against a potential cousin, a father son test is cheaper......obviously the results would be not father and son, but would it note that the two individuals would be of the same y chromosome?

Not entirely sure what you're asking. AncestryDNA's test and familytreeDNA's "Family Finder" family do not report out any Y-DNA results. BUT if a father and his son both took the test, it would be apparent from either of these (non-Y-DNA) tests that they were parent/child - in fact, more solid proof than Y-DNA alone, because if they were both direct-male-line descendants of the same man, they would have the same Y-DNA results (or slight mutation) - this could happen several ways, but one relationship would be first cousin once removed.

If this was an answer to a different question (than the one you asked), would you ask again, with a few more specifics?

BTW - when you include the cost of shipping, ftDNA often beats the price of the competition.
