There are several sites of old occupations
My grandmother, on the beach, South Bay, Scarborough, undated photo (poss. 1929 or 1930)

Researching Cadd, Schofield, Cottrell in Lancashire, Buckinghamshire; Taylor, Park in Westmorland; Hayhurst in Yorkshire, Westmorland, Lancashire; Hughes, Roberts in Wales.

Hi Sylvia, yes and I had a look at some of the old occupation sites but couldn't find anything. I wondered if gat is gut? it came up as something for fishing.

From The Chambers 20th Century Dictionary

Silk′worm-gut, a material used by anglers for dressing the hook-end of the fishing-line, consisting of the drawn-out glands of the silkworm when these are fully distended.

Yes Val it is Stark, thanks very much for the info. There are so many resources and so much to find out I'm going round in circles! I haven't used Findmypast but will keep it in mind for future. Thanks
