  • This one is a complicated one..............any one up for it.

My greatx2 grandmother was Eliza Johnson.

She came out to Tasmania as a convict in 1843 on the Woodbridge............and married Thomas Marshall in 1846.....(I have all the information on her and Thomas)

Her mother was Ann Newman who also was sent to Tasmania as a convict in 1843 on the Margaret.......(I have all the information on her once she came to Tasmania)

There was a sister Mary Ann Newman (maybe Johnson) who was also sent to Tasmania as a convict...........(I am not 100% what happened to her)

Ann Newman's convict record says there was a daughter Martha at her NP.

I have never been able to find this daughter Martha.

I do not even know if she goes by the name Newman or Johnson.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Anne Newman was Roman Catholic (Martha's mother) ....according to her convict records.....her Native Place is Louth

Eliza Newman (Martha's sister) was Church of England.... according to her convict records....her native place is Dublin

But both were living in England when convicted.

If it helps..............Anne Newman's husbands name was James..............but he had left her...........not sure where or when

Anne had 2 sons ...Edward born 1832..............and James 1834........sure where either one of them were born.

But they came out on the convict ship with their mother Anne Newman.

Have you got any dates of birth for Ann and Mary Ann.

I am presuming James who was married to Mary Ann was James Johnson.

Had a quick look in England but can't look at Ireland with out a world sub.

Very had without some idea of the ages of them

Anne Newman was born about mid 1790's

Eliza Johnson was born about 1824.

I had no idea of the connection of the names Johnson and Newman between them.

I am not sure what surname Anne's daughters (other than Eliza) used.

Eliza gave a few of her sons the middle name Newman.

                          Yes I do have that............thanks.

I have had no luck for years on this one too.

I know there must be an answer to it all..............but I can't find it.

Her 2 sons disappear too...........I have them leaving the Orphan School here in Tasmania when Anne Newman marries John Smithson and then nothing.

Might be time to put them back in the too hard basket..........again.

Convict records are generally older than irish records, so it makes sense you would have trouble finding evidence in ireland. Have you thought the sons may have moved states?
