  • Help with reading latin name

I've found an ancestral baptism for my husband in the Roman Catholic Irish records, however I cannot read the father's first name. I can't see that I am able to upload a copy of the signature to ask for members' opinions. Can anyone help in any way? It looks, to me, like Oynisic/Oynisii or Dynisic/Dynisii. Thanks.

It's the inflected ending of Dionysus/Dionysius which is the Latin version of the Irish name Denis/Dennis.

    Researching:
HOEY (Fermanagh, other Ulster counties and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) BANNIGAN and FOX (Ballyshannon, Donegal, Ireland and Portland, Maine, USA) REYNOLDS, McSHEA, PATTERSON and GOAN (Corker and Creevy, Ballyshannon, Donegal, Ireland) DYER (Belfast and Ballymacarrett) SLEVIN and TIMONEY (Fermanagh) BARNETT (Ballagh, Tyrone and Strangford, Down)

Thanks Christine. I had thought Dennis myself but when I checked around on Google I couldn't see it spelt with the Dy.... and thought I was wrong. Plus it's a funny looking "D", more like a lower case "o".
