  • Understanding wills

I have a will on ancestry for a Edward Frank Fleming Roads who died 5th June 1982, it then states not exceeding £25,000 and the majority on the same page state the same. I haven't seen that before. How would I find out anymore information ? Does this mean that there is a specific will and that the distribution of the estate will be listed in full on there?

    Thanks as always

The " not exceeding" bit is the threshold at which inheritance tax started at the time probate was granted. It means the executor has provided as detailed statement of assets as is possible. This sometimes changes when unexpected assets come to light, or as in my case, when my late father's house sold for far more than the probate estimate. I had to then reswear my financial statement.

Yes, there is a will. It will only tell you what the testator wanted to happen, which isn't necessarily what did happen!
