I can't find him on CWGC. Maybe this was a mistake? His picture is shown along with his brother who was taken as a prisoner.

    John MANN

    Killed in Action- France
Son of Mrs and Mrs Mann, Knowle Copplestone.

    WESTERN TIMES 5th July 1918

He was born in Broadhempston in 1888, was in hospital in Ashburton in 1911, and with his parents Arthur and Elizabeth and siblings (including brothers Arthur and Edgar) in Landscove in 1901. It's not all that close to Knowle/Copplestone, though.

Ah, I've found the Western times report you quoted now, so it looks like a different man; yours had brothers George and William.

Ah, well done; I was stupidly looking for deaths in 1918, not having read the first post properly.

So he is on the CWGC site, listed as J Mann.

Ah, Morchard Bishop and Copplestone are some miles apart. I wonder which is right.
                Thanks for looking Jill.

                        Wonderful, thanks Jill

Be good to confirm him at an address or house.

I had one yesterday listed as Bagbourgh Cottages, Copplestone. But I know Bagbourgh Cottages are on Gays Farm, New buildings. In the parish of Sandford. So I have to be sure.

OK - have found him in the Western Times 5th July 1918:

"Copplestone Heroes. Pte George Mann RMLI son of Mr & Mrs Mann of Knowle Quarry, Copplestone is a prisoner of war in Germany, and well. He was reported missing after the Zeebrugge operations. His brother John was killed in action in France. Another brother William is at present serving with the RMLI"

There are photos of George and John.
