Did you notice that the father is, per the census record, deaf? And printing is sometimes an occupation where deaf individuals found employment:
""My dad worked his whole life in a factory, printing," Jackie says. "It's one of those traditional deaf trades..."

So, it's a guess, but the father may have been a printer when he was working. FMP used to have (and I hope still has) the ability to search by occupation and name - could someone search the 1871 and 1861 for printers named Brown, please?
And I wonder if this could be your "Y W" - reversing the letters, and Y sounds a lot like "I"
