How accurate is the mother's maiden name in the new GRO search?
I have a chap who married two sisters (not at the same time, one died!) I have him in 1891 with his second wife, and 5 children, what I thought were 3 from his first marriage and 2 from his second.
Looking up the births of the children on the GRO, the first one has TEW as mmn, the second LEAS, I can't find the third, and the last two both TEW. The second one was born 2 years before his first wife died, the third three years after she died and a year before he remarried, then the last 2 after his second marriage.
So was he a bigamist? Was he having an affair? Or is it a mistake in the GRO?
