  • My Italian great grandfather Domenico Simeone

Hi, I've posted about my great grandfather a little while back but still couldn't seem to find out any information.

I'm searching for my great grandfather, who's name is Domenico Simeone. The 1939 register says that he was born 3rd May 1872 & he is an Italian subject. My great grandfather married Maria Rosaria Innelli in Liverpool in 1911 (I have the marriage certificate). They had 9 children together & later moved to Bristol. My great grandfather passed away in 1942 in Bristol.

I think Domenico's father was called Francesco, as this is what it says on his marriage certificate. Domenico's father was deceased on the marriage certificate. I have no further information on Domenico & have been struggling to find any for years! I know that he was born in Italy but nobody in my family is sure where.

I have been told by family members that Domenico had a brother (I have no information on him) & their mother died & their father remarried. Apparently their step mother was not very nice to them so they left & came to Liverpool.

I've also been told by family that Domenico & his brother Frank's (not sure if this was his name) mother & father both passed away, so they went to live with their aunt who was not very nice to them, so Domenico left for Liverpool & Frank for America (apparently he became a surgeon but again not sure how true this is).

Not sure which of these stories are true (or even if any of them are true).

I've searched passenger lists to see if I can find any records of a Domenico Simeone but I can find any :(

I would really like to find out if Domenico did have any siblings & I would also like to know his parents names & where in Italy he was born. Would anyone be able to help me? Or point me in the right direction?

Possibly! I know that he was a lot older than his wife, so he must've been mid 20's when he came to England! & I also know that he couldn't speak English. & is there any sign of his brother on the record?

        thanks!!

I'm wondering if this is my ancestry tree (my tree is called The Simeone Tree). I can't remember where I got the information from but I added it to my tree to see if it gave me any hints to if it was true or not.

On my tree I have Francesco Domenico Luigi Simeone (1846), I don't know who he married.

I have his parents as Nicolo Simeone & Raffaela Ruggiero. They had 4 children (if I'm correct)

Obviously I have no way to prove this as I can't find a birth record so I can't order a birth certificate. The only thing that makes me think this is true is that Domenico & Maria Rosaria had a son named Domenico Joseph Luigi Simeone, so I was wondering if they named him after Domenico's father?

Hi, I have his marriage certificate & on the transcription his name was spelt Simeoni, not sure if this was because the writing was unclear on the marriage certificate and made it look like and 'e' or if the spelling has just changed over time?

I've had a quick look with no result as yet. I was in contact with the Italian community here in Liverpool a few years ago and I'm looking to see how I contacted them.....if I find it, I will ask if anyone knew of this surname (spelt both ways).

We called it Little Italy herehere is a little background info....
