    Herty Suter b 1867

    Trying to find information regarding one of my ancestors namely Herty Suter.

    I have found information in the 1871 Census of FMP aged 4yrs she is the daughter of William Thomas Suter her mother is Elizabeth Maiden name (Hart)
    Herty was born 1867 in the Parish of Chilcomb. Hampshire.

    I have tried the names Harty and Harriet but just hit a blank.

    Her Parents are William Thomas Suter b 9th March 1845 in Langrish.
    Mother Elizabeth Hart b 1845 Everley Wiltshire.
    Brother William John Suter b 1868 Privet Hampshire.

    I would be very grateful for any information regarding this query.

    It could be Hetty short for Henrietta or Harriet(t)

    On the 1851 census William Thomas has parents William and Harriet

      This is the ancestry transcription for the 1871 Census ....... Harty although someone has added the correction Harriet

          herty/harty/harriet doesn't seem to exist!

          It is possible that she was not registered, but she also was not baptised yet her brother was .......

              Thank you for your quick reply and you are correct Herty was short for Harriet. Herty was born a year before William T Suter and Elizabeth Hart were married hence the name Herty.

              Stupid of me not to realise as it now matches up.

                You are correct Herty was born a year before William T Suter and Elizabeth Hart were married and now that you have mentioned Harriet and also the name Luter it all fits.
                I feel quite stupid as I tried various spellings of the name Suter but never thought of Luter.
                I can now press on.
