I am trying to find the family of Ethel Minnie Lilley 1901-1961 on her Mother`s side. Her mother was Annie Marie Strake 1872-1955 who I have found on her marriage record to Alfred Lilley in 1899. Annie`s father was stated as Charles Strake, deceased, a tailor and although I have found the family on the 1891 census I can`t find any other records for him or his marriage. There is a story that Strake was changed from another name that was Polish ( poss STRECHT ) but I haven`t come across anything yet. Thanks

What exactly have you found him under in 1891 as the only Charles Strake I can find is an engine fitter.
On FMP I got a possible in 1881.
Charles STREEK tailor aged 39 born 1842 Draburg, Germany with a wife Emily born same place and a daughter Annie born City of London but the age is a wee bit out at 11 born 1870. There are 2 German tailors (one an apprentice) born same place as the Streeks, with them listed as servants and a couple of English lodgers seems to be a widow and her daughter.

Is this is the family you found in 1891 where Charles is an engine fitter?
in which case I think this is them in 1881 - surname Sprake
There are various other entries for Sprake but how sure are you that its the right family?Jackie

I'm not saying its the right family but its not clear from the handwriting what the right spelling is. In the census and marriage records the surname could be Streck, Striek.
And here, Emili Hass's sister Matilde gets married and Charles Streck/Streek is the witness

Bear in mind with a German accent the name could sound similarJackie
