Can someone help me find ...

Constance Snozwell's father? She was born 1919, Wantage, Berkshire. I believe it is Arthur Charles (known as Charles) Snozwell. There is one born in 1894, Brentford, Middlesex which makes him old enough to marry Alice Sheppard b. 1889 which is Constance's mother. I can't find him for sure on the 1901 or 1911 census as I think there is another Arthur Charles Snozwell born at a similar time in Middlesex?!

Found someone on Ancestry who has some info. but can't be the right man as the DOB is too young for marrying Alice in 1911! I suppose he could have been registered late?

That one's middle name might be Eli, he's a shepherd on censuses 1891 to 1911

There is still a closed record between Constance and Lilian, presumably 1 of the 2 children born between them. That makes 5 people resident in the house, as noted in the description.


It seems that Evelyn Smith has nothing to do with the Snozwells, she is actually resident no.2 in the next household (n.1 is still closed). A mis-transcription error.

I think Charles E J died in 1989 in Berkshire, although the death registration says Charles Snozwell born ca 1927 ...............

there seems to have been no other Charles Snozwell born between 1920 and 1930

I do think it is the one born in 1871, especially after looking at the 1939 Register.

Tessie said that Alice Sheppard was born 1889, and that is the birth year given on the 1939.


Charles did marry twice, but seemingly no children to the first marriage.

I wondered if this grandchild whose name is given as Winifred, aged 9 was from Charles first marriage? The only birth I can find that fits the age and birth area though is Dorothy V E M Snozwell in Sept 1902 Wantage 2c 315.

Leslie and Noelin died in some sort of fire according to family say so. I'm sure there would be some sort of paper story in the Berkshire records office somewhere - i will get there one day (when I have time / retired in 30 years lol)!

Had a look at the Charles Snozwell born 1871 in Donnington but Constances birth says Arthur Charles Snozwell so I don't think that is him that you have found unless I'm missing something or he changed his name?!
