Harold Wilson of 59 Barnsley Street, Wigan died 1 Feb, 1954. Admin granted in Sep to **** ****** Wilson, National Coal Board chairman The name matches that of Mavis's son born in 1926, so could be her Harold.

This same Harold Wilson is at 59 Barnsley street in the 1939 register. Household comprises in order:
Mary E Wilson b 21 May 1856, widow, unpaid domestic duties
Harold Wilson b 18 Jun 1900, married, brass fitter and finisher (image clearly says this although transcription say brass sales and furniture)
One closed record - my random speculations re the closed record:
        - Possibly Mavis with the record still closed for some reason
        - possibly a younger 2nd wife of Harold, given his married status and if the family story about Mavis dying young is true??? But in that case where is the son b 1926 mentioned by Linda above?
        - Possibly the son mentioned by Linda who would have been about 13 at the time.

If it is the son it raises the possibility that Mavis is alive and kicking somewhere else, given Harold's married status...

In 1939 Harold is saying married, but his mother appears to be living with him as housekeeper. There is only one redacted, which I assume is the son. The son appears to die in Wigan in 2004. Perhaps Mavis ran away from home?

Same interpretation really - the most likely candidate for the closed record is the son, hence the possibility that Mavis did a runner....

Harold was the son of Mary Ellen and William Wilson. His burial is here in grave C556. There's also a William Wilson aged 64 who died in 1915 in the same grave.

                Mary Ellen's grave is C557

Can't find any sign of a wife.

                  Thank you for your replies.

Mmm, very interesting to say the least, but at least you have given me some uselful info. Maybe Mavis emigrated on her own. I know she had relatives that emigrated to the USA and Australia. Her mother died in the UK in 1963 after marring again to William Thomas Preston in 1940 and he died in 1941.

According to the entry on Find-a-grave that Mavis Winifred Wilson was only 23 when she died in 1944
